What is a Root Canal?

A root canal is a treatment used to repair and save a tooth that has been damaged by infection or decay deep inside. The soft tissue inside your tooth, known as the "pulp," can become infected, leading to pain, swelling, or sensitivity. When this happens, a root canal may be needed to remove the infected tissue, clean the tooth, and seal it to prevent future issues.

How Does the Root Canal Process Work?

Initial Evaluation and X-rays: We’ll take X-rays to assess the extent of the infection and create a plan.

  1. Numbing: We’ll make sure you’re completely comfortable by numbing the area around the tooth.

  2. Removing the Infection: The infected pulp is carefully removed, and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and shaped.

  3. Sealing the Tooth: The space inside the tooth is then filled and sealed to protect it from further infection.

  4. Restoration: In most cases, a crown is placed on top of the tooth to restore its strength and function.

Will It Hurt?

A lot of people worry about pain, but here’s the good news: a root canal is designed to relieve pain, not cause it! With the local anesthetic we use, you’ll likely feel little to no discomfort during the procedure. Many patients say it feels no different than getting a regular filling.

After the Procedure:

Some mild soreness is normal after a root canal, but this typically goes away within a few days. We’ll give you all the information you need to care for your tooth and keep it healthy for years to come. We’re here to answer any questions and support you throughout your recovery.
